Wrapping things up

I am working with SkyTruth on putting out another press release. Using this release, I will focus more on communicating with reporters. Once this is done, I just need to get my poster board, publish my data and draft a paper to present along with my board.

Moving Forward

So now that the initial blog has been published, the plan is to go into SkyTruth tomorrow to record data and numbers. I will also have the initial draft for a second press release that we will put out shortly. I will also be working on my website in class today.

October 18th

The press release has been published! Now we are going to wait another week to allow more data to be tracked and then I will begin making my compare/contrast notes. We are also working on a follow up press release that will go out. So far, we have seen SKyTruth's web traffic double as well as increases in other categories.

October's first blog

I've been slacking on my blogs but as of today I have several drafts of both the media kit and press release. SkyTruth has looked over them and edited accordingly and both are set to be released within the next week or so. When I meet with them next Tuesday I will have a media contact list that I created which includes at least one major newspaper from all 50 states and several smaller papers in states along the coast with an emphasis on states in the gulf area and those that are planning to begin offshore drilling such as Virginia and North Carolina. When I meet with SkyTruth on Tuesday I will comb over their Google Analytics page as well as their Mail Chimp account in order to acquire as much quantitative data as possible. Lastly, I have begun to collect research materials for the last phase of my project, which will be a 4-5 page paper on the history of public relations and the role that it plays in helping businesses/organizations be successful.

Update

So for this week of my capstone I submitted my first draft of the press kit to the members of SkyTruth. I have the edits and will compose the second draft for them by Tuesday. I will also have the first draft of the press release, which I will be giving them on Tuesday as well. I have not done the research that I need yet, however, that is on my list of things to complete this week. I've also set a preliminary schedule for myself.

Project Update

This week I tweaked some of my ideas for the final project. Having met with the SkyTruth guys, we agreed to set a list of "dream" publications that they would like to get published in. I also decided to do much more quantitative work on the project, and will have before and after numbers that I will compare and contrast. This week, I put together the initial draft for a press kit. I will meet with the members on Tuesday to discuss it, make edits and discuss in depth the press release as well as look over data on Google Analytics.

Capstone Project 9/9/11

So I have decided to work with the non profit group SkyTruth and assist them with a marketing/public relations campaign. After meeting with the gentlemen on two separate occasions I have decided that in the first month of working I will develop a press kit for their site as well as draft and publish a press release for them. Using tools such as Google Analytics and Mail Chimp I will then compare website traffic as well as facebook and twitter response before and after the campaign. By researching media contacts, I will help the organization set up their "dream publications" that is, the three publications where they would most like to see their organization appear. By researching several different companies and publications I will get in touch with the appropriate media contacts and work from there.
